About Dr. Tatiana Turo-Handy

I understand the experience of new parents not just professionally, but personally.

As an immigrant myself, I know what it means to navigate a new country, a new language, and a new sense of identity, often all at once. As a young child, I served as an interpreter for my family, translating not only words but emotions, systems, and cultural nuances that shaped how we understood the world around us. That experience taught me early on how isolating it can feel to carry the weight of translation linguistically and emotionally for the people you love.

Years later, becoming a parent myself brought a different kind of transition. Like many new parents, I faced the quiet, often unspoken struggles of the perinatal period: the emotional shifts, the identity changes, the moments of feeling overwhelmed even amid deep love for my child. That experience deepened my understanding of how important it is to have support that truly sees you, especially during a time when so much is changing.

Growing up between languages and cultures, and later navigating my own perinatal journey, are both part of why I do this work. I bring professional training and lived understanding to support new parents and families as they navigate identity, belonging, and the profound transition into parenthood; however, that transition looks for you and your family. My hope is to create a space where you don't have to explain or minimize your experience. Where your culture, your language, and your story are not just acknowledged, but honored.

I work with families of all backgrounds, and I hold particular experience and passion for supporting immigrant families and Spanish-speaking clients. Having lived that journey myself, I understand the specific weight of building a life, a family, and a sense of belonging across languages and cultures and I offer sessions in Spanish for those who feel most at home in that language.

My Background

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with specialized training in perinatal mental health and extensive experience in immigration evaluations. Over the years, I've worked with individuals and families from many different backgrounds and walks of life, helping them find strength, healing, and resilience.

  • Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D)

  • Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C)

  • Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (PSYPACT)

  • Experienced in culturally responsive therapy and trauma-informed care

  • Bilingual sessions available in English and Spanish

My Approach

Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, so I work collaboratively with each person to figure out what actually fits whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, postpartum challenges, or the weight of navigating immigration. Above all, I want you to feel heard, understood, and met without judgment, whatever your background or family looks like. We'll bring in practical tools you can actually use, but we'll also make room for the parts of your story that don't fit neatly into a strategy, because those parts matter too.

Why I Do This Work

I became a psychologist because I believe in the power of human connection, and in taking mental health seriously at every stage of life. My own journey as an immigrant, as a parent has shaped that belief in ways that go beyond anything I learned in a classroom. It's part of why this work feels less like a job and more like something I was meant to do.

Outside of The Office

Outside of work, I cherish camping trips and spontaneous road adventures with my family, soaking in Colorado's breathtaking outdoors.
